Products Supplied

Pipe Supports, Guides, Anchors & Thrust Anchors

Project Type

Existing 30-Inch FRP Pipeline — Facility Modernization

Engineering Scope

Finite Element Analysis — 50,000 lb Axial Thrust Loads

Facility

Bayport Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility — Pasadena, Texas

The Problem

Excessive Pipeline Movement and a Support System Nearing Failure

Gulf Coast Authority retained an engineering firm to investigate excessive movement in an installed 30-inch fiberglass pipeline. Lead engineer Morgan Stagg, PE, NCEES concluded that the existing support system was completely inadequate to properly control movement and could allow a potentially catastrophic failure.

The modernization effort required a load-rated support solution capable of addressing the pipeline’s movement and axial thrust demands.

The Solution

Load-Rated JOVE® Supports Backed by Finite Element Analysis

The engineering study recommended JOVE® load-rated support systems. JOVE® was then retained to fabricate and supply pipe supports, guides, anchors, and special thrust load-rated anchors, with finite element analysis performed for axial thrust loads of 50,000 lb.

JOVE® FS-4GX-30

A JOVE® support model shown in the project documentation for the 30-inch FRP pipeline modernization.

JOVE® FS-10X-30

A second JOVE® support configuration documented for the 30- fiberglass pipeline application.

Finite Element Analysis

Engineering analysis was included to address axial thrust loads of 50,000 lb.

A load-rated support system selected to control movement and address 50,000 lb axial thrust loads.

Project Outcome

JOVE® was selected to supply the load-rated supports, guides, anchors, and special thrust anchors for the modernization.
